Paint and Sip parties have become increasingly popular over the past few years. If you haven’t heard of paint and sip, it’s basically a group event where guests follow along with a painting tutorial while sipping a beverage of choice (usually wine). There are several places in Champaign-Urbana that offer paint and sip classes and group parties, but unfortunately, they have been closed due to social distancing.

This is such a fun activity to do with friends, family, or even by yourself! Let's not let COVID-19 get in our way and make our own paint and sip party! This is DIY Paint and Sip. Let’s get started!

What you’ll need

First things first, you’ll need to get your supplies. You can find all of the following supplies at Micheal’s Craft Store, and most of what you’ll need at Walmart or the Dollar Store.

Canvases: one canvas is needed for each person participating. They can be any size you’d like.

Paint brushes: get a few different types of brushes. You’ll need ones that are good for covering large areas of canvas, ones for blending, and ones for drawing fine lines and detailing. The variety packs should have all you need!

Paint: the tutorial you choose should tell you which paints to buy, but if it doesn't, you can give it your best guess. The colors don’t have to match the tutorial 100%, just close enough. You can always mix colors to get the look you want. The best type of paint for this type of painting is acrylic paint. You can find them at lower prices at most craft stores!

Drinks: what you’ll be sipping on in the paint and sip is totally up to you! Coffee, tea, wine, a fruity cocktail, or pink lemonade, it's whatever you want!

Now that you have an idea of what you’ll need, let’s look at some tutorials! Remember to choose the tutorial you want to do BEFORE you buy your paint.

Some good YouTube channels to check out are Katie Jobling, Stay Creative Painting with Ryan O'Rourke, Joni Young Art, and of course, the legend, Bob Ross.
