October is half way through, which seems impossible since it felt like forever for it to get here. Alas, Halloween is just around the corner, and campus trees are turning gold and yellow, making it feel more like fall every day. This week, as many students probably already know, is Homecoming Week! There’s enough going on for Homecoming that you wouldn’t have to leave campus at all this week to find tons of fun things to do. There are some awesome things going on in the greater Champaign-Urbana area, however. So let’s jump into what all is going on this week in town!

Homecoming Events

There are events happening all over campus this week to celebrate UIUC’s Homecoming. Join in the festivities, and show your Illini spirit! Here are some highlights for the week!

Today from 5 to 7 pm, there will be a Homecoming party on the Main Quad! Stop by for free food, inflatables, music, games, and presentations from Illini athletes.

Tuesday, David Dobrik, a YouTube personality with over 12 million subscribers, will be speaking at the Illini Union at 8 pm. He’ll stick around for a quick Q&A, as well!

Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm, visit Washington Park for free barbecue! From 7 to 8 pm, the Global Talent Show is happening at Knight Auditorium. This talent show, featuring international students, is put on to celebrate the diversity and talents of UIUC students. There will be a reception after the show at Spurlock Museum.

Friday, the Homecoming Parade will be marching through campus, from Fourth to Goodwin. “The annual Homecoming Parade features the Marching Illini, Illinois Alumni Band, Grand Marshal, Special Guests, University, Student Organizations and Community participants.” Stick around after the parade for one of the largest college band performances! The University of Illinois Bands Homecoming Concert begins at 7:30 pm, and everyone is encouraged to go to this historic performance.

Saturday is game day! Support the Fighting Illini by cheering them on at the Illinois Vs. Wisconsin game at 11 am. Before that, if you’re down for waking up early, tailgate at Grange Grove. There will be live music, entertainment, the Fighting Illini Team Walk, the Marching Illini pregame show, and many more ways to get ready for the game. The tailgate begins at 7 am.
