There are only a few days left in June before we head into July and Independence Day weekend! This year’s 4th of July won’t be quite the same as it has been in the past. We will find new ways to celebrate and have a great time, however, and there are a few events this week that will help you do just that. Finish up the month of June with as many fun activities as you can! Let’s get into what’s going on this week in town! 

Tuesday, June 30th 

Ever wanted to try your hand at photography? Now is your chance to learn how to find the perfect place to take photos, about different camera equipment, techniques, and terminology. Dustin Reinbold, a staff member at Allerton Park will take you through the basics of photography while showing you the best photo opportunities at Allerton. This is a virtual event that starts 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. You can check it out for free, but they do suggest a donation if you are able to help support the park. Wednesday, July 1st

Missing movie theaters? Try an outdoor theater! Black Lawn Movies will be showing 1999's The Woods this Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Lyles Entertainment & Champaign Events created Black Lawn Movies so people can get out and experience films together again! “‘Black Lawn Movies’ is an Outdoor Movie Screening featuring some of African-American cinemas most classic films. Keeping in mind social distancing guidelines, we all still want to be entertained, This event does just that. Think of it like a drive-in Movie without your car. Pull up a lawn chair, or cozy blanket, grab one of our snack packs and enjoy yourself.” Learn more about the event here!

Thursday, July 2nd - Sunday, July 5th

Have a magical weekend at Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in Theatre! They are showing all eight of the Harry Potter films at the drive in Thursday through Sunday. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the first movie will begin at 9 p.m. There will be two movies each night, so bring some coffee! Here is the schedule for the showings: 7/2- Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, 7/3- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban followed by Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, 7/4- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix followed by Harry Potter and the The Half-Blood Prince, 7/5- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 followed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Friday, July 3rd

Let’s be honest, we could all use a laugh right now. It’s been a rough few months, but we can come together to laugh and enjoy a show! Sleepy Creek Vineyards is hosting C-U Comedy at the Winery this Friday. Come for food, drinks, and hilarious stand-up from Luke Swanson, Erik Scott and Justin Tuttle. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are only $10, so buy them soon before space runs out! Learn more about the event here

Saturday, July 4th

Happy 4th of July! Although many firework shows are cancelled, there is still plenty to do to celebrate. There will be many virtual firework shows you can catch online, as well at the 4th of July Drive-By Parade put on by the Savoy Fire Department! Find the route here! The parade will take place Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
