Hello, and welcome back for another This Week in Town! This week we say goodbye to July and begin August. It’s crazy how quickly this summer is going! With so many great summer events in Champaign-Urbana, it’s no wonder the weeks flew by. Summer is not over yet, and there are still so many things to do in town before the autumn and school begins!
Tuesday, July 31st
This Tuesday kicks off the Urbana Food Truck Rally! On the last Tuesday of July, August, September, and October local food trucks will gather at the Urbana Civic Center to serve their delicious fare. Oh, Honey Pie, a new food truck serving mini and full pies (full pies on request), will be debuting at the Food Truck Rally. Wednesday, August 1st
If you can manage getting up early, Yoga in the Park is a wonderful way to start your day! There will be a yoga class outside from 6 to 7am at Hessel Park this Wednesday. Bring your mat, $10, and usher in your day in a calming, restorative way. Learn more about this event here!
Thursday, August 2nd
Grab some friends and get ready for some great live music! Doty & Dexter will be giving a free performance at Riggs Beer Company from 6 to 8pm! This duo performs classic and modern country, as well as hit songs from the 50’s and 60’s. This is a great band and is sure to be a wonderful time! For the story of Doty & Dexter click right here!
Friday, August 3rd
Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society will be having a Mars observing at Meadowbrook. Mars hasn’t been this close to Earth since 2003! Come out to Meadowbrook, and take advantage of this rare opportunity to view Mars in such detail. The Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society will have telescopes through which to view this remarkable planet. They will meet from 8 to 11pm that night. For more info, follow the link here.
Saturday, August 4th
DOSE Foundation is hosting an acting workshop this Saturday at 2pm at the Urbana Independent Media Center! Kvn Tajzea will be instructing participants oh character development. This event is for teenagers and adults. You don’t have to be an experienced actor to join, just come and learn a new skill! Learn more about the IMC and this event here!
Sunday, August 5th
This Sunday from 1 to 2pm there will be live music at Hammerhead Coffee. Lily Kopp will be preforming in her artsy, and soulful original songs. Coffee and music, what a lovely and relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon! You can learn more about Lily here and more about Hammerhead Coffee here.
