January is coming to an end this week, so let’s finish the month strong with a bunch of fun events! From a Lunar New Year celebration to the Super Bowl, this week is packed with things to do in the Champaign-Urbana area. Take a look at what there is to do this week in town!

Tuesday, January 28th

Tomorrow night, a very special event is happening at Seven Saints. That’s My Story CU is hosting a storytelling night at the downtown restaurant and bar to bring the community together with the power of people’s stories. If you’d like to share a  story from your life, try to be at Seven Saints by 6 p.m. as the storytelling will begin at 6:30 p.m. Stories should be about seven minutes long and can be about whatever the tellers want. Wednesday, January 29th 

The Asian American Cultural Center is throwing a Lunar New Year dinner celebration at the Ikenberry Commons! Stop by between 5 and 8 p.m. to see music and dance performances by several student organizations and to do arts and crafts with other RSOs! This is sure to be a fun night celebrating the start of the year of the rat! To learn more, click here!

Thursday, January 30th

Visit the Krannert Art Museum this Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. for the opening and reception of Hive. Hive is “a site-specific sculpture and sound installation by Nancy Davidson and Lakshmi Ramgopal (Lykanthea). The installation can be viewed in the Kinkead Pavilion before the artist’s talk in the Link Gallery at 6:15 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear how the artists were inspired to create Hive and to ask questions about the piece if you’d like. Friday, January 31st

Fill your Friday night with laughter! GroveStone is hosting a stand up comedy night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with C-U Comedy. The hilarious comedians who will be performing on Friday are Justin Tuttle, Jesse Tuttle, Matt Pflum, and Mikel Matthews. Grab your tickets quickly if you would like to attend as space is limited. Saturday, February 1st

The Red Herring is hosting a Jazz Brunch this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The vegan brunch menu includes biscuits and gravy, sweet or savory pancakes, grain bowls, burritos, carrot lox and toast, seitan bacon, and much more. While you eat, enjoy the jazzy sounds of Red Herring’s house jazz band. Brunches don’t happen too often at Red Herring, so this event is definitely not one to miss if you love vegan breakfast food. Join Champaign Outdoors for a Happy Hour Hike to start your February off on the right foot. Meet some new friends as you take a hike at Buffalo Trace Prairie in Mahomet followed by grabbing a beer at Triptych. Sunday, February 2nd


Whether you’re a football fan or just like watching the halftime show, find a good time at 51 Main’s Super Bowl Party this Sunday! From noon to 9 p.m. everyone is invited to come hang out to watch the game on 51 Main’s giant projector screen.
