Happy MLK Day! Enjoy the Monday off, and remeber to take a little time to be grateful for all the prgress he made in our country.
If coming back to school after a long break is weighing heavily on your mind, fear not! There are many events in CU this week to make the first week of classes a little more tolerable. Take your mind off the new semester by enjoying Champaign-Urbana and all the exciting things going on this week in town. Hopefully professors won’t assign homework this early… they can’t do that on syllabus week, right? From ice skating to cooking classes to a Bollywood dance competition, there is something to pique everyone’s interest. Let’s get started by exploring what’s going on this week in town!
Tuesday, January 21st
At the Urbana Free Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m., learn about the night sky! Dave Leake, former director of the William Staerkel Planetarium, will be going over what we can see in the night sky over the next few months. The winter sky shows us different constellations that the summer sky, so it will be cool to see what’s changing this season. Leake will also be discussing 2020 sky events as well as astronomy news. This educational event is free and is sure to be an interesting time. Click here for more information!
Wednesday, January 22nd
Stop by the UIUC Ice Arena this Wednesday for Samosas and Skates, a brand new event put on by Raas Mania. Help out the student organization raise money for underprivileged children in India by joining in a night of ice skating skating, samosas, and chai. Tickets are only $7, and they cover “rental skate costs, activities, one samosa, and you’ll be entered in a raffle to win a Holi ticket.” The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the ice arena. Thursday, January 23rd
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Thursday, stop by the Illini Union for the UIUC Involvement Fair. This event is hosted by the Krannert Center Student Association. Friday, January 24th
Want to learn how to make ramen 100 times more tasty and better for you? Come to Harvest Market’s Farmhouse Restaurant this Friday for their Ramen Bowl Night. Tickets are only $7 and you get to learn how to make your own ramen bowl and enjoy it for dinner! The cooking session runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is a perfect way to end the week. Find out more here!
Saturday, January 25th
This Saturday, see Udaan 2020: An Official Bollywood America Wildcard Competition at the Virginia Theater! Hosted by UIUC Udaan, this event is the first of its kind in Champaign-Urbana. See dance teams from across the country perform during what will be an unforgettable evening. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the show begins at 6. Sunday, January 26th
The Dancing Dog will be hosting a conversation about environmental issues this Sunday at 4 p.m. Come to learn about what’s going on in the world and be a part of the change in the community.
