July is almost half-way through! The summer is going by so quickly, but it’s not over yet. This week, there are many fun events going on in the Champaign Urbana area. Summertime memories are waiting to be made, so without further ado, here is a list of some of what’s going on this week in town!
Tuesday, July 16th
Mattoon’s Bagelfest starts tomorrow! Though Mattoon is a little bit of a drive from CU, bagels are so worth it! This festival runs from Tuesday to Saturday this week, with a free bagel breakfast the morning of the 20th. Many of the music events there are free, and others are only $5. Wednesday, July 17th
Silvercreek is hosting their third annual Hawaii night! Part of their Global Wednesdays, Hawaii night will feature cuisine from the islands of Hawaii. The delicious and tropical food will be paired with the music of singer/songwriter, Tessa Turner! If you’re looking for a little escape from the week, this is the perfect place. Friday, July 19th
This Friday, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is bringing back their wonderful evet, Outside at the Research Park. The event will feature “the Chicago-born, Barcelona-based Alma Afrobeat Ensemble. This in-demand, eclectically instrumented group serves up an “intensely danceable” mélange of global flavors influenced by funk, m’balax, and hip-hop and uniquely delivered through a dynamite horn section, dobro, banjo, and pedal steel stylings (Afropop Worldwide). Arrive early for an opening set at 6:30pm by Champaign-Urbana world music favorite Zécca Bom.” There will be a variety of food trucks at the event, so you are encouraged to enjoy dinner there! The Champaign County Fair will be starting this Friday! Summer in the midwest wouldn’t be complete without a county fair, with the pagents, races, 4H events, carnival rides, games, and food! The fair will run from July 19th to July 27th, with events and things to do every day! For the full list of events, check out their webpage.
Saturday, July 20th
Visit Red Bicycle Ice Cream on Saturday for their Vegan Gelato Fest! You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the plant-based frozen treat. All their vegan gelato is 25% off on the 20th. If you’ve never tried vegan ice cream or gelato, Saturday is the perfect time to try!
