Hey, it's the last week before a much-needed Spring Break! Remember the post about all the local coffee shops that rock? Make sure to check that blog out for your daily caffeine addiction fixes, it's good for the soul.
Speaking of coffee, here is a shop that I haven't heard of! I've posted about Everyday Kitchen, but this is a bit different! Apparently, they have 1/2 coffee drinks that taste great! This happens everyday 5PM-7PM. "Join us for happy hour, featuring ½ price coffee and tea daily from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m."
Think you're funny, eh? I certainly do, I'm hilarious. You know JD from Scrubs how he always laughs at his own jokes? That's me, so I feel like I should signup and appear as a star guest. One time I thought to myself "I should do a standup some time" and my roommate burst into my room and shouted "NO" then slammed the door and left. Not really funny as much as weird, like how did he know... Anyway if you don't want to perform you can definitely show up and just watch! There's also drink specials, not complaining there. "C-U Comedy's Open Mic Stand Up Comedy inside The Clark Bar in downtown Champaign at 9PM - No Cover Mix of first timers, U of I students, local performers, and even comedy club acts stopping in. 5 minute sets - fast paced show! There is a constant supply of Community involvement events that are featured in this blog, and this one is even more involved where you get to voice your concerns about the safety in the community, and ideas that you may have. Signup and get involved in the local community! "Elevate our cities with your voice. Join your fellow CU residents for dinner and conversation about what local public officials should prioritize in order to decrease violence, particularly gun violence, in our communities and increase safety and equity. What does a safe community (psychologically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc) look like to you, and what answers do you need from local leadership about how to achieve it? 5:30-6:00: Dinner with your fellow community members 6:00-7:15: Guided small and large group discussions 7:15-8:00: Co-create a questionnaire for Champaign City Council and mayoral candidates in anticipation of the April 2 local elections. Illinois Public Media reporters will send the questionnaire to candidates and publish answers on our website and social media. Make sure your leadership knows your needs! And eat and talk with CU residents who love their cities as much as you. This is a non-partisan event. NOTE: You must RSVP for this event. When the event fills, we will start a wait list to track interest. We will send wait list members a survey about their thoughts on community safety so that everyone can be involved. Please RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/democracy-in-cu-lets-talk-solutions-to-community-violence-tickets-57116734691?ref=estw If you know people who would like to attend who do not have access to a computer, please tell them to RSVP by calling Kristin at WILL's newsroom 217-244-2629.
