Good morning! The week is starting out very dreary with the rain, but the rest of the week will be sunny! It will be another hot week as we go into August, but hopefully less humid. (You never know with Illinois). Don't let the heat deter you from having a great week, though. Champaign-Urbana has so much going on. Here's what you can look forward to this week in town!

Monday, July 29th

From 7 to 10 pm at Exile on Main Street, there will be four bands playing a variety of indie-pop music. Catch local bands Dry Look, Nectar, and Zzo, and Columbus band, Good Shade, at CU's favorite record store. For more information on the bands and Exile, click here!

Thusrday, August 1st

Travel down the Yellow Brick Road this week at The Virginia Theatre! The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company presents The Wizard of Oz. Follow Dorthy and her beloved dog, Toto, as they travel through the strange land of Oz in search for ruby slippers, collecting a barrage of friends along the way. The opening night is 7pm this Thursday. If you can't make it for the first curtain, don't worry! There are showtimes everyday this weekend, Thursday through Sunday. For complete showtimes, click here!

Friday, August 2nd

Join Allerton Park and Retreat Center for Irish Fest! You don't have to be Irish to join in the festivities, but you'll definitely feel like it with the traditional music, food, and beer! Guinness anyone? Listen to live music from The Shanties and The Founding while enjoying the a dinner from Greenhouse Cafe or one of the food trucks that will be there for the special evening. Be sure to catch the performance by dancers from the Shamrock Academy of Irish Dance, as well! This event is FREE, but a donation is encouraged if you can. For times and more information on the bands, click here

Saturday, August 3rd

Join 40 North and the Urbana Park District for their first ever Crystal Lake Park Art Fair! Shop from over 30 artists and vendors from 10am-6pm. There will be food trucks, a free mosaics workshop, kids crafts, and so much more. This sounds like it will soon be a staple in Urbana, so go for the chance to say you were at the first one! For the list of artists and directions, click here.

Sunday, August 4th

Kick back and relaxing with a classic 80's film. Top Gun hits the big screen again at Savoy 16! See Maverick and Moose in all their 80's glory. Here's what Savoy 16 has to say about the film:

Tom Cruise stars as Navy fighter pilot “Maverick” in this blockbuster that is the perfect 1980’s blend of action, patriotism and romance. The soundtrack album, with songs by Kenny Loggins and Berlin, including the Oscar®-winning Take My Breath Away, went platinum nine times. Kelly McGillis plays a flight instructor romantically drawn to the reckless Cruise. (“I feel the need…the need for speed!”)

As always, we at CPM hope you have a great week!
