Did we talk about this? Well no hurt in sharing it again! This event brings baby goats and and fresh brunch food to your Saturday’s this month, and this has my stamp of approval! Tasty food and cute animals, what else could you ask for!
“Join us every Saturday in April for a perennial favorite, “Babies & Brunch”!
Come out to the farm and visit with the new baby goats, see the emerging signs of spring, buy local farm products, and enjoy a locally-sourced delicious morning brunch! This free, family-friendly event goes from 10:00am – 2:00pm.
In addition, we will offer a brunch menu featuring Chef Raquel Aikman Ritz of Feast Catering. Chef Raquel will create 4 unique menus for each of the Saturdays in the month of April using fresh, spring ingredients from local farms including Blue Moon Farm, Bane Family Farm, The Mill at Janie’s Farm and Piemonte Sausage Company.
Each menu is still being finalized, but you can expect similar delicious dishes to those of last year! Favorites like Blueberry French Toast Casserole or Goat Cheese Biscuits & Creamy Piemonte Sausage Gravy or Moonglo Spring Veggie Quiche with Blue Moon Farm Greens will be selected with a variety of both sweet and savory dishes to make each Saturday unique. A beverage menu featuring coffee, PFFC’s famous Goat Milk Hot Chocolate, Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s and a selection of beer and wine will be available.
Here’s how the brunch service will work:
–Once you arrive at the Farm Store, add your name to the waitlist board to get a table; if tables are open, you will be seated right away
–Shop in the Farm Store, sample cheese and gelato while you wait for your table OR go to the barns to visit with the goats while you wait for your name to be called
–Once seated, our servers will quickly take your order and your meal will be served once ready. All meals are made to order, so please have patience
–After you eat, pay at the register and continue shopping or visiting with the goats
–Cash and credit cards accepted
MEET THE BABY GOATS
Stop by the barn to meet the “kids”. We have over 75 baby goats born in March, with more born in April. Please note signs on the pens that specify which goats can be petted or not (as the newborns shouldn’t be petted by guests until they’re a little older). And don’t forget to walk next door and visit with the does.
SHOP LOCAL FARM GOODS
Show your support of local, sustainable farms by picking out a few items through our on-site store, The Real Stand. We’ll have cheese and gelato that are made by the Prairie Fruits Farm team. We also feature products from local farms such as Bane Family Farm that produces meats & eggs. T-shirts, sweatshirts and home goods available, too.
Our address is: 4410 N Lincoln Ave, Champaign, IL 61822
Lincoln Ave is now open and it’s easier than ever to get here. You can take Lincoln Ave or Olympian Drive to get here. See our site for directions: http://www.prairiefruits.com/directions
We have about 30 parking spaces along our farm driveway with additional parking on the south edge of the farm. Staffers will be on hand helping guests find parking spots. Please consider carpooling and coming early, as parking is limited.
We are a small facility and bathrooms are limited. We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizer to clean up after petting the goats.
NO PETS POLICY
As our farm is a working farm, we ask that you leave your pets at home. Outside pets are not welcome.”
Earth Day is this Saturday which means there is much for you to do to help the fellow environmental needs that exist around you. This is a volunteer opportunity to help plant seedlings, you get to learn more about gardening and taking care of plants.
“We welcome volunteers from the community to come and help us transplant spring seedlings on the farm. Celebrate Earth Day ~or~ 4/20 & plant some flowers with us from 1pm-3pm! There will likely be other farm tasks for volunteers to help with, depending on experience and weather. Get in the sun, get your hands dirty, and get your Springtime on–it’s time to celebrate all things green!
There will be fresh fruit, snacks, & beverages available for volunteers. The open air & natural surroundings will surely warm your heart & soul.
This event will overlap with the Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery‘s Baby Goats & Brunch::for those that wish, it could be a fun way to spend most of your Saturday on a local farm!
*Wear clothes that can get dirty and that you can move comfortably in. Close toed shoes are required. If possible, bring your own gardening gloves and spade (not required).”
Here’s a multiple-day opportunity to pick up trash! I know, that doesn’t sound particularly entertaining but helping out the environment is wonderful and caring, and if you only do it during this time then it’s not too bad!
““Plogging” is a Swedish/English term that refers to jogging, running, or walking while picking up trash, preferably incorporating lunges or squats in the pick-up part. This is a family-friendly activity that promotes both fitness and caring for our community.
To celebrate Earth Week join your fellow Second Wind Running Club members for a weekend of virtual plogging April 20-22nd!
The “rules” are simple:
1. Pick a route either in your own neighborhood or in your favorite place to run or walk.
2. Bring at least one friend/family member to plog with you. (Feel free to plog with pets!)
3. Plog at least one mile.
4. Post a selfie on the SWRC Plogging facebook page describing where you plogged, the distance, and those who plogged with you.
Traveling that weekend? No longer in the C-U area? No problem! We encourage all Second Wind members to join us in the Virtual Plogging Weekend, wherever you may be. Let’s see how many miles, members, and places we can cover!
A few plogging tips:
– Be very aware of potential hazards, especially cars. Check the weather to make sure it will be safe.
– Bring a bag with you for the trash, and do separate any recyclables.
– Have fun!”
