Happy Monday everyone! March is officially here and we are so excited to be heading into some beautiful spring weather (whether or not it’s here to stay!) With temperatures reaching up to 57 this week, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors, explore new places and enjoy the sunshine.
If you’re looking for a good way to spend some time outside this week, here is a quick list of ideas and places to explore:
Have a Picnic
Pack your favorite lunch to go and set up a picnic in a scenic place. Whether you want to pgrab lunch to go from your favorite place in town or make your own arrangement, there’s something about eating outdoors that’s so much better. Invite your friends along to enjoy some safe and socially distanced time together.
Take a Hike
Hit the trails at a local park. One of the best things about living in central Illinois is how many trails and forest preserves we have to explore! Take a tranquil walk through the gardens Allerton, enjoy long winding prairie trails at Meadowbrook park or relax by the water at Mahomet’s Lake of the Woods. Take a look at the full list of locations and events at https://www.ccfpd.org/.
Feeling adventurous? Take a day trip to Starved Rock, Turkey Run or Shawnee National Park to enjoy some cliffs and waterfalls.
Set Up a Hammock
If you’re someone who wants to get outdoors but prefers naps to taking a jog, pick up a hammock! Whether you set up in a forest preserve or your apartment balcony, you won’t want to move the whole day.
If you’re looking for a full weekend adventure, take a little covid-friendly vacation and go camping! You can rent a camping spot at popular locations or download the Ultimate US Public Campgrounds app to find a free spot to use. Don’t forget the marshmallows (and don’t head too far into the woods without a little research or experience!)
Go For a Bike Ride
Enjoy some fresh air with a bike ride! Hit the trails at Meadowbrook, Hessel Park or Lake of the Woods to take in some new scenery and get some exercise the fun way.
Walk a dog
