We all remember when those kinetic sand stations came out in the Brookstone Stores and then we had the massage chairs, drawing boards, and something to play with our hands! Kind of like the dry snow, but perpetually wet sand that doesn’t stick as badly! Well here are three recipes, just give them all a go and pick your favorite!
“The recipe in this post ends up having a great texture, and of the three recipes we tried, this one had the closest texture to the kinetic sand you see in stores. The only down side is that it dries out after a day of play and you have to add more water to keep it going.
I think what I’ve learned from making all of these different play sands is that you have to tweak the ingredients for the type of sand you have. All play sand is slightly different, so if your sand isn’t behaving how you’d like it to, you’ll need to increase (or decrease) the quantity of liquid to bring it to a texture you like.”
I’ve seen multiple names for this little beauty, Zen Board is what this article called it and I like it! Basically, you use a certain type of papers and paint and your painting will disappear. It’s pretty ingenious if you are practicing your painting skills or you need to watch negative topics disappear visually as a symbol for putting that chapter of your past behind you. Regardless of why you would get a Zen Board, it’s a pretty creative tool and fun for any situations, maybe like an artistic whiteboard.

There are many different ways to do essential oils now, but this seemed like a good way if you have a crockpot! Lavendar is my go to, but those common ones like euclyptus and mint are also very enjoyable for myself. I know many people don’t enjoy Teatree but dang, do I love a good teatree! What’s cool about the oils is that you can use them for all the other DIYs I talked about!
“Using this method, you can extract essential oils from plants you might not normally find oils from. I love mint, chocolate mint being my favorite. But finding chocolate mint essential oil usually left me with flavored oils, not the real thing. I was able to make a small amount of chocolate mint essential oil that was amazing, although it took a lot of plant material for a small amount. Grapefruit mint will be my next experiment.
You can also make blends that aren’t found in nature. I made an oil from oakmoss, lavender, and patchouli. I was able to get a small patchouli plant from my local hydroponics store. The scent was amazing! But like the chocolate mint, the amount of oil yielded was small.”
