Welcome back to another This Week in Town! After a nice holiday break, it’s time to get back into the swing of things. Going back to work or summer class doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. With each new week, there are so many more new things to do and try. In Champaign-Urbana there is always something going on. Here are some suggestions to take your week out of the ordinary!

Monday, July 9th

The Iron Post is hosting a poetry night beginning at 7pm (sign up for reading at 6:30). This is an open mic event with featured poet, Nikki Byrnside, who will kickoff the night. If you have some poetry, spoken word, or a passage of literature you would like to share, this is definitely the place. All are welcome, even if you just prefer to listen to other artists read aloud. Tuesday, July 10th

If you haven’t discovered this unique event yet, now is the perfect opportunity. Glow by Lola has designed an evening of body strengthening yoga and peaceful restoration in nature. Yoga Hikes/Forest Baths has three more events this summer, so now is the time to try it. Wednesday, July 11th

Make the most of your lunch break at CoreLife-Eatery! This Wednesday, Dr. Chacko and Dr. Gersh will be giving a presentation on how your diet affects your mental health and how to get and stay healthy. The presentation will begin at 11am at CoreLife, and go until 12pm. An added perk, after the presentation, you’ll get 50% off lunch at CoreLife! Learn more about the event here.

Thursday, July 12th

Krannart Art Museum and Kinkead Pavillion will be hosting Capturing American Landscapes: Photography talk & workshop this Thursday from 3:30 to 5pm. Photographer and writer Phillip Kalantzis-Cope will be showcasing some of his work and will lead a discussion on 20th Century photography. If you are a photographer, there will be a workshop after where you can share and get professional advise on your work. For more info on the speaker and event, click here!

Saturday, July 14th

Four alternative bands will be playing this Saturday at Exile on Main. Hear some local talent and expand your range of music taste. Lime Forest, Classic Bang, Standby, and Parachute Day will be preforming at the record store starting at 6pm. Grab your favorite band tee and head over for an awesome night. Sunday, July 15th

This is the day we’ve all been waiting for. A chance to put all those hours binge watching to use! This Sunday, Twin City Trivia is hosting a The Office themed trivia night at Rafters Draft & Dough. Get a team together and enjoy a night of trivia from America’s favorite dysfunctional workplace comedy with awesome food and drink from Rafters. Trivia starts at 7, so don’t be late!
