This Week in Town!

The first week of July is here! It's hard to believe it, I know, but the summer is flying by. It seems like the more exciting things you do, the faster the days go by. But don't let that stop you from making the most of every week this summer! This week in town, there will be numerous great summer events, from live music to fireworks. Let's see what Champaign-Urbana has to offer this week with another This Week in Town!

Monday, July 2nd

The Iron Post in Urbana is hosting a night of live music from local musicians. Guitarists Garrick Nelson, Thomas Skottene, and Kurt Bielema will be preforming. The event begins at 7pm and will go to around 9pm. Stop by for a nice night of drinks, food, and local music! For more info, click here.

Wednesday, July 4th

Happy Fourth of July!!! There are several events going on in Champaign in celebration of Independence Day. The 4th of July 5K registration begins at 7:30 am at the State Farm Center with the race starting at 9. Learn more about race times and location here. At 11:05, the parade will begin! This year, the parade's theme is Salute to Veterans. Come out and show your support! The parade will be starting at First & Kirby and ending at Goodwin Ave. For the complete route and map, click here! At last, the main event! The Champaign County Fireworks display will begin around 9:15 (dusk). Melrose Pyrotechnics will be sending off their custom fireworks over the State Farm Center. This is always a spectacular show. Friday, July 6th

Kick off your weekend by kicking up your dancing shoes! Friday, from 8 to 9pm, Timbalú will host an outdoor salsa dancing concert right by the lovely Boneyard Creek. If you've never been salsa dancing or seen it preformed, this is the perfect time. Salsa dancing is beautiful, fierce, and it's so memorizing to watch. Saturday, July 7th

Sholem Aquatic Center is having a Late Night Swim this Saturday! You don't have to worry about sunscreen for this trip to the pool. Float down the lazy river under the stars, or splash into a pool reflecting the moon. Night swimming is really cool, and this event is open for everyone. If you have passes, this event is free. Sunday, July 8th

Harvest Market is hosting a Corn Feast this Sunday, 12 to 5 pm. What's more Illinois than corn? They've cooked up a menu featuring fresh corn on the cob, corn cookies, and a maple corn donuts. While you're there, be sure to pick up some ears of sweet corn to prepare at home! Summer has never tasted so sweet. I hope this has given you some fun ideas for things to do in town this week!
