The Champaign-Urbana area is full of fun, family-friendly things to do, from endless parks and trails to group sports and summer festivals. We’ve gathered a few Things to Do in Urbana ideas below, and have included some links to help you learn more.
Workin’ On Your Fitness
The city of Urbana’s Park District is holding a variety of summer fitness classes, but the newest addition to the usual fitness classes offered in Urbana (check out the full Program Schedule here!) is Yoga in the Park. These free Yoga classes take place in Meadowbrook Park and are meant for all ages and abilities. The instructor for the yoga in the park classes is Kristina Reese, a Yoga Alliance certified teacher and Urbana Park District’s in-house yoga expert. The classes are free of cost, but the description recommends a donation that will go towards the Urbana Park District Youth Scholarship Fund. Support the Urbana youth and find your zen in a beautiful outdoor setting with Yoga in the Park!
Ultimate Frisbee and Other Meetups
The Champaign-Urbana Adult Sports and Recreation Club has a number of outdoor team activities that you can partake in, such as volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and a handful of other options. The Club’s information page on meetup.com says they have a strict RSVP system, so make sure you let them know you’ll be attending ahead of time by RSVPing. The club boasts over 800 participants, so definitely check it out for some fun outdoor sports and friendly competition with other Urbana locals!
Full Moon Night Rides
Spend your nights howling at the mood from your 12-speed with Full Moon Night Bike Rides! On two evenings of the month every full moon, Prairie Cycle Club hosts a “pick your own speed” group bike rides heading east from Meadowbrook Park. The time of the ride depends on the exact time of sunset, so they announce the start times a week or so before each ride. For the full schedule of night rides, visit the Full Moon Night Ride page on Prairie Cycle Club’s website.
